Web Design

Here are some recent websites we've designed for clients in a variety of sectors. Click on the screenshot to go to the client's website in a new window.

City Club of Tacoma - Non-Profit Site

A new site for the many programs of City Club of Tacoma

City Club of Tacoma needed a new website that highlighted its regular programs. The left menu of the site highlights the programs and dates in one glance without a lot of scrolling. Easy and intuitive to use, City Club’s new site helped them show off their non-profit mission to great success

Margy Clair - Author Site

New site and branding for author and therapist Margy Clair

After creating a book for Margy, we set out to create a site with the same look and feel that would help her reach a much wider audience for her work.

The site keeps the simplicity of the cover and offers a platform for both book sales and also her mental health counseling.

Plentii.com - Worldwide Development Team

Worldwide development of ExpressionEngine integration. We were a

This was a worldwide project, with developers and designers in Santa Monica, California; Bozeman, Montana; New York, New York; Charlotte, North Carolina; London, England; and Sydney, Australia. (Plus us in Tacoma, WA!)

We had a small role to play helping with a very narrow piece of the site: ExpressionEngine integration with a fancy new comment system. It was a very fun, very cool project, and we include it here to show that Mary Holste Design knows its stuff when it comes to ExpressionEngine and setting up great, custom features for clients that we were hired to be a part of this very cool worldwide development team.

Carol Milgard Breast Center - Expression Engine Conversion

A new and powerful back-end to run an important site for a community resource

The Carol Milgard Breast Center found themselves locked into a Content Management System (CMS) that made minor text changes a huge pain.

Mary Holste Design moved the Center over to ExpressionEngine, taking the opportunity to beef-up some of the features of the site, including surveys, event calendars, and more.

Now on a stable platform, the Center can manage its own site easily and without the hassle.

First Lutheran Church - New website

Website Design and Implementation

First Lutheran Church needed a brand-new look for their website and an easy-to-use content management system that would allow them to manage events and communicate with their members. At the same time, it needed to show off the church’s assets — its beauty, its tradition of music, and its ministries — to potential new members.

Mary Holste Design created a simple site with an emphasis on large images to convey the experience of the church. Expression Engine provides a rich content management system (CMS) for handling events and regularly updating content.

Debra Austin Books - Daughter of Kura website

Web design and development

Debra Austin, author of Daughter of Kura, needed a site to promote her first novel, published by Simon and Schuster. The book presented many challenges. It was about homo erectus a precursor of homo sapiens set 500,000 years ago. The characters don’t have language and they don’t have clothes.

How best to bring potential readers into the world of Snap, the main character?

Mary Holste Design turned to Tacoma-based illustrator Chandler O’Leary to create signature artwork for the site. She created beautiful watercolor renderings of Snap and the situations in the book. In a very real way now, the site shows the world of Snap telling stories, caring for children, and fighting leopards.

The site is unique and multi-media. The author reads a chapter, the watercolors tell the story, discussion groups can download questions, and Debra can collect email addresses from readers for her next book. Its visual colors match the earthy-tones of the cover and the story itself.

And, thanks to Expression Engine, it will be easy to update when Debra publishes her sequel!

Washington State Coalition for the Homeless

Web design

The Washington State Coalition for the homeless needed to update the functionality of their site and improve their design. Integrating their current logo and design colors, Mary Holste Design and Gridwork Design created this site, loaded with content from around the country.

Like MHD’s other projects, this uses Expression Engine for its functionality and power.
